Book 8 of the fiftyfiftyme Challenge: The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo
The first prose novel in the challenge! I actually started reading this when I started the challenge, possibly even right before. That should give you an indicator of how long it takes me to read a prose book. I started the second one and then put it down. I’m part way through the first Discworld book so I’m working on that next.
This book though is pretty amazing. I’m a big fan of the darker Crime Fiction and this is certainly Dark. I’ve seen the Swedish film and I hope to see the American one soon. But this book includes so much more that really adds value to the overall story. Unlike V for Vendetta where I thought the movie did a great job of boiling everything down (and honestly I think you could get away with only watching the movie) you get a lot more reading this book on top of watching one of the movies as well.
Previous Book Entries:
Green River Killer: A true Detective Story
Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn
Uncanny X-Force: The Apocalyps Solution
Uncanny X-Force: Deathlok Nation
Star Wars: The Old Republic
V for Vendetta
Flash: Road to Flashpoint

Book 1 of the fiftyfifty me Challenge: Green River Killer A True Detective Story
I snagged this during when Dark Horse sent out a 50% off coupon for their Digital App. I liked the story for the fact that it didn’t make anything glamorous. Sometimes when you read something like this you think “I can see where they may have changed this or that to make the story more appealing.” I didn’t get that feeling in Green River Killer. In fact the writer said the only things he really changed were names of some people or combined them because they wanted to either be left out or he didn’t want to confuse you with too many side characters. Overall if you like real life crime, give it a read. I think even without the coupon it’s like 9.99, which isn’t too shabby.

My Friends and I had a question that was always passed around. “If you had the opportunity to travel to the future, you found out it was incredibly shitty, and had one phone call back in time to someone to stop you from traveling to the future… Who would you call?”
Many made choices off of who they thought would believe them. My response was simply: Me.
Other friends would argue, how would you believe yourself? My response was “That’s easy, I have a code word for this. It’s something only I know. If I ever get a random phone call and a single word is spoken, I know to avoid anyone who wants to take me into the future.”
This page totally reminded me of that.
wonderali:

This is page 101 of How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu (Sorry. Spoilers, sweetie). It could be my favorite page in any book ever.
I’m never going to write a book. I don’t mean that in a bad way, it’s just not the kind of writing I’d do. I can write the shit out of marketing copy. But I’m not a storyteller, I don’t want to write a book or a comic or a movie. And I’m OK with that.
But if I DID write a book, I’d have a copy of this page prominently displayed at my work station. Because nothing is more motivating or awesome than your future self telling you, “You will write a book. It will be great. Here’s a copy.”
